South African drummer and percussionist Dane Paris is a musicianwhose playing takes you on an experience that you did not know youneeded. The command and energy behind the kit is what is at the forefront ofwhen you watch him. Dane is one of South Africa’s young and versatileartists who has been playing alongside SA’s seasoned musicians.
Growing up in Manenberg, he began hiscareer at the age of seven playing in hisschool band. Since a young age, he hasbeen actively involved in one of CapeTown’s marching bands; where he led ontrumpet, as well as the Cape Town KaapseKlopse and the Christmas Choirs.Dane attended Beau Soleil Music Centrewhere he played in the senior windensemble and stage band. His passion andlove for jazz music and the industry;developed when introduced and exposed toit by Ronel Nagfaal at the start of his highschool career – in 2013. During high schoolDane found his love for drums. Dane plays both jazz and classical drums invarious ensembles such as The LittleGiants directed by George Werner, which ispart of an NPO, called IMAD, Blake Hellabyband. He also holds great relationshipswith elders of the South African jazz scenesuch as Feya Faku, Herbie Tsoali, LexFutshane and George Werner. Morerecently Dane appears on NduduzoMakhatini’s 2nd Blue Note Records Album,In the Spirit of Ntu.
